This morning went so smoothly. I was up just before the alarm in plenty of time to shower, eat some hotel breakfast and Uber to the Rijksmuseum. I had a 9:15 tour booked. It was perfect. I walked up and down all the stairs, followed the guide for the highlights; all the paintings i expected to see. Lunch in the cafe and a tour of the shop and bookstore. I discovered the Special Collections room and wandered through cases of model ships, 17th Century menswear, plates and cups and door hardware. Another stop at the cafe for apple crumble and a coffee and then a short tour of the neighborhood before my knees gave out and i Ubered home to the Leonardo Hotel at 4:00. Tired. Whew!

I was ready for dinner at 5:00 when the hotel restaurant opened and had a great Dutch beer and a burger. Back in my room, I crashed. At 7:00 i couldn’t keep my eyes open. I fell asleep as soon as i turned off the lights. At 12: 30 i was wide awake, and rested.

At my age, sleep is elusive. I never sleep more than 4 hours at a time, but usually after a bathroom stop, i am right back to sleep for another 3 to 4 hours. But so often, sleep doesn’t come. After an hour, i usually turn on the light to read, or even go downstairs for a snack and solitaire before trying to sleep again. So being awake in the middle of the night doesn’t feel completely strange; going so deeply asleep at 7:00 does. Is it jet lag on my second

is it Jet-Lag on my second day in Amsterdam? Or did i just wear myself out?
